Among all conducting polymers, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (best known as PEDOT) has a special place in organic electronics similar to the one of silicon in the semiconductor industry. This is due to its excellent electronic and ionic conductivity, thermal and air stability and its well-developed and relatively simple and well-established synthesis technology. In the present talk a theoretical understanding of its electronic properties and its complex morphology based on the density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulations will be presented.
