Van der Waals Materials for Nanoelectronics Workshop

Van der Waals

Aims & Scope

This workshop brings together leading researchers working on the physical, chemical, and functional aspects of van der Waals (vdW) materials, with the aim of fostering interdisciplinary discussions that will drive the next generation of nanoelectronic technologies. The scope spans from fundamental studies — including topological properties, phonon-mediated heat transport, strain-tunable thermal conductivity, mechanical behaviour, spin and charge transport, spin dynamics — to emerging applications in resistive switching, RF oscillations, and quantum device architectures. Special emphasis is placed on the role of heterostructures, monolayers, and intercalated vdW crystals, highlighting how these materials respond to external stimuli such as low temperature, magnetic field and compressive strain, how their phonon spectra and heat dissipation mechanisms can be tailored at the nanoscale. Through presentations and discussions, the workshop will explore how microscopic mechanisms — including phonon scattering, electron–phonon coupling, and spin–lattice interactions — govern macroscopic functionalities, creating a foundation for innovations in electronics, spintronics, thermal management, and quantum technologies.
