May 27 at 13:00 in the Prof. Arkadiusz Piekara Auditorium, Collegium Physicum.
Speaker: Prof. Bernhard Blümich
Institut für Technische und Makromolekulare Chemie, RWTH Aachen University, D-52056 Aachen, Germany
will speak about:
"Compact and Mobile NMR: Evolution and Applications"
Abstract: Compact NMR started with the introduction of tabletop relaxometers for food quality control and materials testing in the early 1970ies. Mobile NMR started even earlier in the 1950ies with the exploration of earth-field NMR for oil-well logging. These instruments subsequently evolved into mobile sensors for nondestructive testing, tabletop spectrometers for chemical analysis, and even mobile, low-maintenance MRI machines employing permanent magnets. The evolution of compact and mobile NMR instruments is reviewed and illustrated with contemporary applications from materials testing and chemical analysis.
